About Chef Philip Pearson (Shef)
Hi my name is Chef Philip Pearson I was born and raised in Chicago but moved to Atlanta as a teenager where I developed my cooking skills. I specialize in cooking diabetic and renal friendly food. Read more about my culinary journey below.
Diabetes & A Miracle At Birth
I was supposed to have been born dead due to complications of my mother’s diabetes but my mom, Ruth Marie Pearson, believed in a God that heals! Little did I know this experience was part of my destiny. Learning how to care for my mom when she grew worse was the training ground for my new food future. All of the cooking skills I had learned prior was incorporated into what is now a dietitians kitchen.
Personal Cater to My Mom’s Diet
When I grew older I catered to my mom by preparing and delivering her food to her home on public transportation in Atlanta. Because she had renal failure, I had to learn to cook according to her diet under the guidance of a dietitian at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta. When the dietitian mentioned how my mothers health began to improve due to a healthier diet from my cooking, and if she could refer all of her patients to my home for dinner, those words were engraved in my memory forever! Behold my cooking business was born!
Cooking for the Stars
In 1996-1999 I was hired by the mother of Keith Sweat (Ms. Juanita Sweat) to cook at their Atlanta restaurant. It was there I had the opportunity to cook personally for the legendary R&B singer and his friends, music executive Hiriam and Rhonda Hicks, T-Boz (TLC), Jermaine Dupri, Usher, and many more. I was also hired to cook for Gladys Knight at her Chicken and Waffles restaurant across the street from the same hospital.

Food As Medicine?
I believe God ordained food to not only feed us when we are hungry but also as medicine. All throughout the bible there are many examples of God catering to His people from dropping bread from heaven (Exodus16:4) to Yeshua (Jesus) feeding 5000 hungry people with five loaves of bread and fried catfish (haha just kidding not sure what type of fish it was) (Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6:30-44; Luke 9:10-17; John 6:1-15).
I chose to diabetic friendly food from my own kitchen to yours because scripture says. “I am praying that everything prosper with you and that you be in good health, as I know you are prospering spiritually.” 3 John 2:2 CJB
