Mushrooms to treat COVID? I know, that’s what I thought too when I first read this article from Epoch Times author Joseph Mercola. But it’s no secret that mushrooms are known for their medicinal properties, but what’s new is they’re being researched as to whether they’re tough enough to tackle the COVID-19 virus as well as SARS with its history of boosting immunity. Dr. Gordon Saxe, director of research at the Centers for Integrative Health at UC San Diego School of Medicine, is the principal investigator for this study.
Saxe, Shubov and colleagues believe mushrooms and Chinese herbs may be the answer, given their strong antiviral properties. One type of mushroom, agarikon, was also previously found to inhibit two types of influenza (H1N1 and H5N1) as well as herpes. These immune-enhancing effects is what set off Saxe’s quest to study mushrooms and their ability to fight against COVID-19.

Mushrooms and Chinese Herbs for COVID-19, known as MACH-19, is a multicenter study led by University of California San Diego School of Medicine and UCLA. Their trials, which are still recruiting subjects, involve people who have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and are quarantined at home with mild to moderate symptoms. Read More at the The Epoch Times
